Ayne Baker Majul, a practicing attorney and resident of National City for 15 years is sixth of the seven children of Antonio and Aida Majul. Ms Majul became an attorney because her father, a Professional Engineer in the U.S., was a Professor of Law in the Philippines. She worked with the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Social Security Administration (DHEW, SSA) for almost ten years. While there, she was a Union Steward for AFGE, AFL-CIO for four years giving her a deeper appreciation for civil service and labor disputes.
Ayne Baker Majul belief in Education is reflected in her pursuit of knowledge. She completed her elementary and High School education in the Philippines where she was born and raised until coming to the United States at the age of 16. Her collegiate education begun at Bergen Community College in Paramus New Jersey with an Associate of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies, continuing on to William Paterson College for her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. Ms Majul completed her college education in 3 years while working full time. While employed for the Federal Government (DHEW, SSA) she completed her Masters Degree in Educational Psychology from Montclair State College at Upper Montclair,New Jersey. Ms Majul, after handling numerous Union Labor dispute sought and gained a Juris Doctor Degree from RUTGERS - the State University of New Jersey. At Law School she was a Book Review Editor of The Women's Law Review in her third year and Tutor for first year students on the Law of Contracts on her 2nd & 3rd year.
Ms Majul considers herself a "People's Attorney", often referring to herself as a "Country Lawyer" dealing with the people's immediate concerns: family law, personal injury, wills & trusts. Ms Majul is a sole practioner at her law firm situated in National City since 1987 and employing 2 to 3 employees who has worked for her 12 to 18 years.
Ms Majul served as the Executive Director of the Southeast Center for Asian Pacific American Law (SCAPAL) in 2002-2003, a Legal Aid service organization located in National City and she published the first Filipino-American Directory of San Diego County in 1989 and 1990-91.
She has been the recipient of many awards such as: The Outstanding Business of the Year Award in 1993 from the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of San Diego County, the 1996 Outstanding Service Award from the Council of the Filipino American Organization of San Diego County, Inc., one of the 1998 Phenomenal Women of the Ethnic Minority Bar Association, and in 2003 and 2004 the Manuel Wiley Pro Bono Service Award from the Legal Aid Society of San Diego County..
Ms Majul considers herself a long distance athlete having run two New York City Marathons, and bicycled a 50 miler. She hopes to participate in the 3 day Breast Cancer walk soon.
